# Quick Start

> Connect your iOS device and simulate a location in under 5 minutes.

Follow these steps to go from a fresh account to a simulated location on your device.

  <Step title="Create an account">
    Go to [minkmap.com](https://minkmap.com) and sign up. A credit or debit card is required to choose a plan.

  <Step title="Download and install the helper app">
    MinkMap requires a small desktop helper to communicate with your device. Download and install it for your operating system before continuing.

    The helper runs silently in the background. You don't need to open it manually — just keep it running while you use MinkMap in your browser.

  <Step title="Enable Developer Mode on your device">
    MinkMap requires Developer Mode to be enabled on your iPhone or iPad.

    To enable it:

    1. Open **Settings** on your device.
    2. Tap **Privacy & Security**, then scroll down and tap **Developer Mode**.
    3. Toggle Developer Mode on and restart your device when prompted.

      Developer Mode is a standard iOS feature for app testing. It does not require a paid Apple Developer account. See the [Developer Mode guide](/guides/developer-mode) for more detail.

  <Step title="Plug in your device via USB">
    Connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer using a USB cable.

    * Open MinkMap in your browser. Your device should appear in the device selector.
    * If prompted on your device, tap **Trust** and enter your passcode.

    <Tip>
      After your first successful USB connection, MinkMap can connect to your device over WiFi. See [Wireless connection](/guides/wireless-connection) to set that up.

  <Step title="Simulate a location">
    With your device connected, use the map to pick a location:

    * Search for an address, city, or landmark using the search bar, **or**
    * Click any point directly on the map.

    Your device's GPS location updates immediately. It works even when your phone screen is off.
