> Install the MinkMap desktop helper app on MacOS to connect your iOS device.

The MinkMap helper is a lightweight background app that lets your browser communicate with your iOS device over USB or WiFi. You need to install and run it **before** you can connect a device.

      <Step title="Open the zip and launch the app">
        Double-click **MinkMapHelper.zip** to extract it, then double-click **MinkMapHelper** to launch it.

        If MacOS shows a warning that the app is from an unidentified developer:

        1. Right-click (or Control-click) **MinkMapHelper**.
        2. Select **Open** from the context menu.
        3. Click **Open** again in the confirmation dialog.

          The standard double-click may be blocked by Gatekeeper on the first launch. Using right-click → Open bypasses this for apps you explicitly trust.

      <Step title="Confirm the helper is running">
        The helper runs silently — there is no window or dock icon. Once launched, return to [minkmap.com](https://minkmap.com) in your browser and connect your device as normal.
      </Step>
    </Steps>

    <Note>
      **The helper app is only compatible with Macs manufactured after 2020 that use M-series processors.**

      Macs made before 2020 may experience compatibility issues and are not supported. If you encounter any problems, please contact [support](/support/contact).
