# Install for Windows

> Install the MinkMap desktop helper app on Windows to connect your iOS device.

The MinkMap helper is a lightweight background app that lets your browser communicate with your iOS device over USB or WiFi. You need to install and run it **before** you can connect a device.

        Download the MinkMap Helper Installer from the website.

        Double-click **MinkMapHelperInstaller.exe** to start the installer.

        If Windows shows a "Windows protected your PC" SmartScreen warning:

        1. Click **More info**.
        2. Click **Run anyway**.

        <Warning>
          This prompt appears because the installer is not yet widely distributed. **The app is safe to run.** If you prefer, you can verify the file's checksum before proceeding.

      <Step title="Follow the setup wizard">
        Work through the installer steps:

        1. Click **Next** on the welcome screen.
        2. Read and agree to the license agreement.
        3. Choose an installation folder (the default is fine for most users).
        4. Click **Install** and wait for the installation to complete.

      <Step title="Confirm the helper is running">
        The helper launches automatically in the background after installation. The MinkMap page in your browser will detect it and allow you to connect a device.
